Energy companies continued to restart their facilities in the US Gulf Coast after the double hit from Hurricanes Nicholas and Ida. According to the US Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE), about 16% of crude oil production and 24% of natural gas output in the US Gulf of Mexico remained offline on Wednesday. The region accounts for 17% of oil production and 5% of dry natural gas production in the US. It is also home to 45% of the country’s refining capacity.
Royal Dutch Shell said its WD-143 pipeline hub would be under repairs until the end of 2021. This is expected to affect production at its Mars and Ursa oilfields, around 200,000 bpd, until the first quarter of 2022. The company restarted its Perdido platform on September 17 and expects to resume production at the Olympus platform soon.
BP said all of its platforms in the US Gulf of Mexico had resumed production, while Chevron said its staff were preparing to restart the Petronius facility as of September 21. Equinor said on September 17 that it was working on bringing its Titan platform back online.
