An industry survey showed that the US exported 1.6 million barrels of crude oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) in October. The country released 12 million barrels of SPR oil in the last two months, including 3.1 million barrels last week. Analysts said more SPR crude is going to depart from US shores in the coming weeks. The SPR release is aimed to ease soaring retail fuel prices. However, the record pace of SPR crude exports may indicate that the move is not helping all that much, analysts said. Democrat lawmakers have also pushed for other steps to curb soaring fuel prices, including a ban on crude exports.
