The US Department of Energy said one refinery near New Orleans and three plants in the Baton Rouge area had restarted operation after the category 4 Hurricane Ida slammed the region last week. These four refineries have a combined processing capacity of 1.3 million bpd. However, these plants will unlikely produce at full rates for several days. Meanwhile, five other refineries in Louisiana, which have a total capacity of about 1 million bpd, remained shut.
Marathon Petroleum on Friday said it had begun the initial stages of restarting its 578,000 bpd refinery in Garyville, Louisiana. Exxon had also resumed operations at its 520,000 bpd refinery in Baton Rouge. Industry sources also said that Placid’s Port Allen refinery and Delek’s Krotz Springs refinery had also started to resume operation during the weekend.
