Marathon Petroleum said on November 2 that it was considering strategic options for its refinery in Kenai, Alaska, including a potential sale. The move came as Marathon looked to optimize its portfolio. Marathon acquired the 68,000 bpd refinery from Andeavor in 2018. Located on Cook Inlet, about 60 miles southwest of Anchorage, the refinery processes mostly Alaska domestic crude oil such as Alaska North Slope and some overseas grades, particularly Russian Sokol.
