Two of Louisiana’s largest oil refineries had initiated restarting processes after being shut down ahead of the Category 4 Hurricane Ida which made landfall on August 29. Exxon Mobil Corp resumed operations at its 520,000 bpd facility in Baton Rouge last week. On Friday, Marathon Petroleum said it had begun restarting its 578,000 bpd refinery in Garyville, Louisiana.
PBF Energy on Friday said it could not predict when it would resume normal operations at its 190,000-bpd Chalmette refinery which still received limited power supply. Industry sources said power had returned to Valero Energy’s 15,000 bpd St. Charles refinery, Placid Refining’s 75,000 bpd Port Allen refinery, and Delek’s 80,000 bpd Krotz Springs plant, indicating that they would likely restart soon. Meanwhile, Phillips 66 was still evaluating damages at its Alliance refinery.
