AlwaysFree: FMFF Seeks Clarity Whether Logistics Essential Services

Author: SSESSMENTS

The Federation of Malaysia Freight Forwarders (FMFF) is seeking clarity on whether logistics services are included as essential services. FMFF is unable to advise its members, which operate in the transport and warehousing services, on whether they can continue operations due to many contradicting statements from different ministries.

Actions from enforcement agencies suggest that logistics services are non-essential services although Port Klang Authority said otherwise. FMFF said the police required drivers to have NSC approval to transport goods, work travel passes, and proof they have COVID-19 tests. Enforcement agencies also urged their offices to be closed.

The federation said this opposes statements from the Ministry of International Trade and Investment (MITI) which allow logistic services to continue operations of essential and non-essential goods. FMFF has sent letters to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Transport regarding the confusion, but it has yet to receive a reply.

The federation also noted that the Ministry of Defence required companies to issue work travel passes to their workers. Hence, the federation has requested approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Transport to issue work travel passes for its members.

The delayed response from the ministries may force FMFF to advise members to cease all of their operations, the federation said. Further advice will be issued when it receives clarity.
