AlwaysFree: Flooding Shut Enbridge’s Natural Gas Pipeline

Author: SSESSMENTS

On Tuesday, Enbridge Inc. said that a part of one of its two pipelines in British Columbia, Canada, had to be shut as a precautionary measure due to heavy flooding in the province.

Enbridge's 30-inch diameter line of its Westcoast natural gas pipeline had to shut the smaller line (the 30-inch one) as two days of torrential rain in British Columbia triggered major flooding and mudslides and shut down road and rail routes in and out of its largest city, Vancouver.

The Westcoast pipeline has another 36-inch line that was still operating. The lines usually deliver 1.5-1.8 bcfd to the lower mainland of British Columbia and the US Pacific Northwest.

Due to the shutdown, Enbridge is estimated to only be able to transfer 1.4 bcfd of gas to its customers.

Currently, the company has no timeline on when the 30-inch segment of the pipeline will return to full service. It said it would continue to monitor the situation and will take further actions should they become necessary.
